Amila Bandara, General Secretary of the State and Provincial Public Management Service Officers Association, said that there are currently about 8,000 vacancies in the Public Management Service, and due to this, many problems have arisen at the institutional level in the performance of duties due to the shortage of management service assistants in the State and Provincial Public Service Institutions.

The Secretary pointed out that about 5,150 of these vacancies are in Central Government Institutions and the remaining 2,850 vacancies are in Provincial Service Institutions.

Although the Government Gazette for recruitment for them was published on July 17, 2020, calculating the vacancies in Central Government Institutions in 2020, approximately 135,000 applicants have been wronged as the examination has not been conducted for 5 years.

Accordingly, it is further pointed out that although recruitment has been conducted on a limited basis in the past, applicants have lost the opportunity to join the public service at a young age due to the lack of an open competitive examination for more than 7 years.

Accordingly, the attention of the Prime Minister-led committee on public service recruitment has been sought to conduct the open competitive examination published on July 17, 2020 and immediately recruit for these vacancies, said Mr. Amila Bandara, General Secretary of the Provincial Public Management Service Officers’ Association.
