Sri Lanka’s Welfare Benefits Board has disbursed 11.6 billion rupees to the bank accounts of 622,495 beneficiaries under the Aswesuma scheme for June.

In the first phase of the program, beneficiaries in the ‘vulnerable’ category received 5,000 rupees from July 2023 to March 2024.

Those in the ‘transitional’ category received 2,500 rupees from July to December.

The existing payment system for the ‘extremely poor’ and ‘poor’ categories will continue without changes, Jayantha Wijeratne Chairman/Commissioner of the Welfare Benefits Board said.
