First corona death recorded (23.12.2023)
Sri Lanka recorded its first corona death after almost a year.
A 65-year-old man from kandy area, who was admitted to Kandy Hospital with symptoms of Covid, has died. He has been confirmed to be infected with Covid in PCR test.
Instruction to wear face mask
At the same time, Director of the Allergy, Immunology and Cell Biology Unit of the Sri Jayewardenepura University Dr. Chandima Jeewandara has advised people living in the country to wear face masks again.
He mentioned that the reason for this is that the new covid virus strain which is JN 1 OMICRON sub mutant is also spreading in Sri Lanka.
A new type of corona in Sri Lanka too
Director of the Allergy, Immunology and Cell Biology Unit of the Sri Jayewardenepura University Dr. Chandima Jeewandara said that the JN-1 Omicron strain of new corona virus identified in India has now also been identified in Sri Lanka.
He said that due to the fact that the tests for Corona are being carried out at a low level, it is not possible to get its real data.
However, immune vaccines against the coronavirus are still being offered.
However, it is important for those at high risk to receive booster vaccines, he said.
He also urged people to consult a doctor and seek advice if anyone continues to experience fever due to the ongoing inclement weather.
