There are 25,000 teacher vacancies in the country and Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya stated in Parliament that the appointment of graduates will be made immediately after the court ruling in April.
The Prime Minister, who pointed out in the House that graduates can be incorporated in accordance with the court ruling, informed the court through the Attorney General that the Cabinet decided to fill 25,000 vacancies.
The Prime Minister said this in response to a question asked by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa regarding the steps taken by the government to provide jobs to unemployed graduates.
The Prime Minister, who further commented on this matter, also said:
Blocking graduates from joining the teaching profession is a case pending in the High Court. If we are allowed to fill the vacancies in the next hearing, we will take immediate action.
As stated in our election manifesto, we will provide job opportunities to unemployed graduates.
There are several rules for that. Is he tall? Is he short? We will never give business after seeing that without following any system like the previous governments. There is a system for that.
Career opportunities will be provided according to the proper policy in accordance with the decisions issued by the Public Service Commission.
Recruitment will be carried out by conducting competitive examinations and face-to-face examinations to recruit people, especially for vacant departments. Recruitment is currently underway for vacant departments.
The process of providing jobs to 10,000 people has been initiated.
